National Library Board

Libraries and archives function as gateways to knowledge and culture, playing a fundamental role in society by supporting learning, literacy and education. They help shape new ideas and allow creativity to thrive in a knowledge-driven society.

NLB serves our community by providing a trusted and accessible network of 28 Public Libraries across Singapore. Together with the National Library and the National Archives of Singapore, these are community spaces for friends and family to gather in their pursuit of knowledge and love of reading. NLB also nurtures a deeper appreciation and awareness of Singapore’s history through programmes and collections.

Over the past twenty years, NLB has constantly evolved to meet the changing needs of our patrons and partners. Our three previous master plans have seen NLB embark on a range of new initiatives, from developing new collections, fostering important partnerships to putting in place a digital infrastructure to support Singapore’s knowledge ecosystem.

If you have always had a love for reading and learning, found that libraries were a magical place of discovery, or want to work in a meaningful job which is driven by purpose to make a real difference, the NLB scholarship may be for you.

Our undergraduate scholarship offers promising talents in Singapore with the opportunity to pursue full-time undergraduate studies to advance the development of our libraries and archives, and also to grow domain expertise in diverse knowledge fields ranging from Business, Humanities (e.g. Literature, Digital Humanities, Chinese Language etc.), Social Sciences (e.g. History, Southeast Asian Studies, Contemporary China etc.), to Information Science, Data Analytics, and Digital-related disciplines, etc.

Mid-term scholarships are also available for current undergraduates who are passionate about championing NLB’s mission - to make knowledge come alive, spark imagination and create possibilities.

As an NLB scholar, you will play a key role in fulfilling NLB’s mission while advancing your career in an internationally recognised, well-loved public service organisation that is distinguished by its pursuit of excellence in innovation and customer service. There are many possibilities and areas to contribute to. For instance, if you enjoy working with children, seniors or persons with disabilities, we have specialised teams to conceptualise and deliver services to them. We also have a wonderful archives team who can share more about Singapore’s past memories, specially for a history and heritage enthusiast. If you love our libraries and archives and have envision for a better learning space, we have a whole planning and development team to work with on the creative ideas that you have! Whatever your passion, you will always have a voice and space to help shape the future of our organisation, for our citizens.
